This programme is suitable for adults and school-age students in grades 4–12.
During the programme, participants learn about the introduction of surnames in Latvia and discover the origins of Latvian given names and family names, particularly in the Vidzeme region in the early 19th century. In earlier times, a person’s name or surname often reflected their character traits or physical appearance.
By creating their own “surname tree,” participants will also discover what interesting things can be learned about a group through its family names.
